LGBTQIA+OTUK Timeline


The timeline below was produced and shared at RCOT Conference 2022 during a collaborative presentation between LGBTQIA+OTUK and RCOT LGBTQIA+ Steering Group and illustrates how the group formed and has evolved thus far.

2019 - AOTI Gender and Sexuality in OT Advisory Group publish LGBT+ Awareness & Good Practice Guidelines for Occupational Therapists
May 2020 - BAMEOTUK form in response to murder of George Floyd (RIP)
Ongoing: CSP LGBTQIA+ network is increasingly active.
Autumn 2020: Series of #OTalks re: improving diversity and representation in OT
Feb 2021: LSBU OT Society host event 'Gender and Sexuality in OT practice' via Zoom - open to all. Post-event chat reiterated need for LGBTQIA+OT network.
Early 2021: Series of online meetings - what? how? when?
April 2021: Tentative first steps into public domain via Twitter
June 2021: Virtual OT Pride launch event via Zoom = booked to capacity.

June 2021: 
LGBTQIA+OTUK asked for speaker to contribute to Inclusion plenary @ RCOT 2021
Ketan Dave is appointed as RCOT’s 1st EDB Manager
Summer/Autumn 2021:
Ongoing consultation with Steve Ford (CEO @ RCOT) re: Strategic Themes
Ongoing conversations with RCOT about ways and means of working together, acknowledging distrust and disengagement of some LGBTQIA+ RCOT members/former members. With not for or to. 
Autumn 2021: LGBTQIA+OTUK asked for speaker to contribute to RCOT’s #OTs4Equity Campaign
Advert for Expressions of Interest for RCOT LGBTQIA+ Steering Group published via OTNews and online
Feb 2022: LGBTQIA+OTUK affinity group members make the front page of OTNews for LGBT History Month.
Feb 2022: RCOT LGBTQIA+ Steering Group is formed.
